Thirty years on it's still an absolute banger

About to commemorate 30 years since its release, Another Night stands as an iconic Eurodance pop track by the renowned German music project known as Real McCoy, often referred to as M.C. Sar & The Real McCoy.

The song was meticulously crafted and produced in Germany by Juergen Wind (also known as J. Wind) and Frank Hassas, using their producer team name ‘Freshline'. Initial reception in Europe was rather modest. Although it managed to peak at No. 18 in Germany, its presence barely registered on the Top 100 charts in other European countries.

The turning point arrived with the dedicated promotional efforts of BMG Canada, which catapulted the single to the number-one spot on the Canadian charts in the spring of 1994. This newfound success piqued the interest of Clive Davis, CEO of Arista Records, who was in the midst of replicating his success with the Swedish pop sensation, Ace of Base, by introducing another European music project to the US market. A deal was swiftly finalized between Arista and BMG, resulting in the project's name being shortened to Real McCoy. A reinvigorated release of Another Night was promptly set in motion.

It soon skyrocketed to a top three spot on the music charts in the UK and the United States. A testament to its enduring appeal, Another Night was even recognised by Billboard Magazine, landing at an impressive number 91 in their Top 100 Songs of the First 50 Years of the Hot 100 in 2008. It went on to earn the esteemed certification of Platinum from the Recording Industry Association of America. In addition, this hit single also achieved Platinum sales in Australia and attained Silver status in the United Kingdom.

While the music videos for Another Night feature the talented singer Patricia ‘Patsy’ Petersen, it's noteworthy that the actual vocals on the track were performed by the accomplished studio singer Karin Kasar. The rap vocals, an integral part of the single, were expertly written and delivered by the German rapper Olaf Jeglitza, who goes by the moniker O-Jay.

Although a  hugely commercial pop/dance confection with the usual male rap verse/female sung chorus combination that has proved so popular, it is definitely worth acknowledging as a track that defines a style of music from that era.
