To kick things off, setup is lightning quick - just plug into the power, hit the on on button and away you go. And that's it. You don’t even need to connect it to a sound system; the built-in speakers will let you blast out your tunes straight away.
With no need for a laptop it offers 3 ways to DJ - streaming wirelessly from your favourite streaming services, directly from Dropbox or from a USB or SD card. The clever software directly connects you to songs and ready-built on-line playlists including TIDAL, Beatport LINK, Beatsource LINK and Soundcloud GO+. Or you can hook into some tracks from a Dropbox account. Track selection is downloaded directly to the device, analysed by the software and is immediately ready to play.
The 7" HD screen is where all the action happens. It’s ultra-responsive without a hint of lag. The touch-sensitive 6" jog wheels are excellent plus there are four performance pads that trigger cue points, saved loops, auto loops, and roll functions. These are easily toggled to another four sets of functionality using the shift key, so eight in total.
The built in speakers are high quality enough both for casual playback and performing to a small group of friends, and overall present a rich and moderately loud basey sound.
The engine DJ OS allows intuitive touchscreen workflows, super quick library navigation and song loading plus expanded connectivity.
The overall build is robust. The knobs, faders, platters and built-in speakers are well built with a solid feel but the unit is still light enough to be easily portable.
At the back sit two USB ports and an SD socket so you can even record your mixes directly without any external gear. And to take you performance to a whole new level, you can also hook up to Philips Hue light systems and DMX-equipped gear to easily deploy your own light show.
It really is a superb all-in-one console that is certainly a gamechanger for first time DJ’s, but also an option for the more experienced performers who like the idea of not using a laptop, buying music, or even having to plug in speakers.
